The Story Behind Every Jacket
People often ask us, "How do you actually make these jackets?" And honestly, I love answering that question because every single jacket has its own little story. No two are ever the same — and that's completely by design.
Step 1: The Hunt
It all starts with a trip to the charity shops. And let me tell you, this is one of my favourite parts. There's something so exciting about rifling through the rails, never quite knowing what you'll find. We look for good quality denim in children's sizes — jackets that are sturdy, well-made, and just waiting for a second chance.
Sometimes we find absolute gems on the first rack. Other times, we visit five shops before we find the one. But that's the joy of it — the hunt is half the fun!
Step 2: Your Vision
Once we have the perfect jacket, it's over to you. We love hearing about what makes your little one tick. Is it butterflies? Flowers? Dinosaurs? Autumn leaves? Their favourite colour? Their nickname?
We'll chat through your ideas (usually over DM or email — we're very informal here!) and come up with a design together. Some parents know exactly what they want. Others just say, "surprise us!" And we love both approaches equally.
Step 3: The Magic Happens
This is where the real work begins. Depending on the design, we might use a combination of:
- Hand-painting — using fabric paints that are washable and durable
- Embroidery — for names, details, and decorative elements
- Patches and appliqué — for extra texture and character
- Fabric pens — for fine details and lettering
Each jacket takes several hours to complete. We don't rush it. This is slow fashion in the truest sense — every brushstroke, every stitch is done with care and intention.
Step 4: The Finishing Touches
Once the design is complete, we heat-set any painted elements to make sure they're durable and wash-friendly. Then we give the jacket a final quality check, wrap it up with love (minimal plastic, of course), and send it on its way to you.
Why It Matters
The thing that makes us proudest is knowing that every jacket we create has been saved from potential waste and given a new purpose. It's not just clothing — it's a little act of sustainability wrapped up in a beautiful, personalised keepsake.
When your child outgrows their jacket (because they will — they always do!), we hope it gets passed on, treasured, or kept as a memento. That's the beauty of something made with love — it carries meaning long after it stops fitting.
