Why We Choose Upcycled Denim
Did you know that the fashion industry is one of the biggest polluters on the planet? And denim — beautiful, durable, timeless denim — is one of the worst offenders. A single pair of jeans can use up to 10,000 litres of water to produce from scratch. That's honestly mind-blowing when you think about it.
When we started Everleigh & Co, we knew from the very beginning that we didn't want to add to the problem. We wanted to be part of the solution. And that's why every single piece we create starts with pre-loved, second-hand denim.
The Problem with Fast Fashion
We all know the feeling — you pick up a cute outfit for the kids, they wear it three times, and it's already in the donation pile because they've grown out of it. That's just part of having little ones, isn't it? But the reality is that a lot of those donated clothes don't find new homes. They end up in landfill, or worse, shipped overseas where they create waste problems in other communities.
Fast fashion encourages us to treat clothes as disposable. And children's fashion is one of the worst culprits because kids grow so quickly.
Why Upcycled Denim?
Denim is actually the perfect material for upcycling:
- It's incredibly durable — it lasts for years and only gets better with age
- It's already been produced — no new water, no new chemicals, no new resources
- Each piece has character — vintage denim has a softness and a story that new denim just can't replicate
- It takes personalisation beautifully — paint, embroidery, patches all work brilliantly on denim
When we pick up a pre-loved denim jacket from a charity shop, we're not just saving it from landfill. We're giving it a whole new purpose and a whole new life.
Our Commitment
Every Everleigh & Co piece is:
- Sourced from charity shops, vintage stores, and preloved sellers
- Cleaned, checked, and prepared with care
- Hand-personalised with your child's name and chosen designs
- Wrapped and delivered with as little plastic as possible
We're not perfect — no one is — but we're trying our best to make a small difference. And we believe that lots of small differences add up to something pretty big.
"We don't need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly."
